Practise Peacefulness

Posted on: June 16, 2010

It is very difficult to be peaceful in a world that
is littered with sound. No matter where you turn,
you hear both internal noise and external noise.
External noise constitutes the most blatant type
of distraction. This is the noise that we experience
while watching television or while being beside
           someone who is excessively talkative.
Internal noise consist of inner distractions that
you habitually fall within when you feel overwhelmed
or have negative emotions. They could take the form
of negative self-talk or just constant obsessing over
           this or that.
When you try to practise peacefulness, you try
and put an end to both internal and external types of
noise for a prescribed period of time. You may do
this by meditating: closing your eyes and breathing
deeply for five minutes or so. Or, you may do this by
taking a walk around a nature path. This could help
you to regroup by listening to the birds, feeling the
wind on your face and so on.
In order to feel confident, you must try to
practise peacefulness.  Even if it means removing
yourself from the noises of the day for a few
minutes, it will do volumes to raise your self-esteem.
So, next time there is a lot of noise around you
and inside of you, remove yourself from the
immediacy of the noise and take a stroll on the
           peaceful side.
