Don’t be a Doormat!

Posted on: June 18, 2010

Have you ever acted like a doormat? Do you ever
allow others to stop all over you without fending for
yourself? Do you allow others to walk all over you?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above
questions, you’re not alone. We can all relate to doing
that. The key is that we shouldn’t allow ourselves to
be treated this way ALL the time.
In order to ensure that your peers and siblings
don’t step all over you, follow these steps.
           1.  Develop non-negotiable boundaries with your
peers and siblings and make sure you act as if you
           mean it.
           2.  Don’t allow yourself to be a victim. You can do
this by ensuring that you don’t set yourself up to be
           cornered and abused.
           3.  Have respectful friends and get rid of kids
who don’t care much about you and are abusive.
           4.  Speak up for yourself, and tell your peers in no
uncertain terms that you won’t be treated badly.
           5.  Be ready to tell your peers that you won’t be
their doormat anymore. This may take some time to
instill. But it sure is worth it!
Remember that you weren’t born to be abused.
You are wonderful just as you are so don’t let others
take advantage of you in any way.
