Mutual Trust and Respect

It is difficult for mothers and daughters to have
mutual trust and respect for each other. Yet
without it, you cannot develop a healthy mother-
daughter relationship.

In addition, without mutual trust and respect,
you cannot communicate openly and honestly. And
if you can’t communicate with one another about
things that are really bothering you, how could you
develop mutual trust and respect in the first place?

Something really strange occurs when you
become an adolescent. It’s like your mother panics
and all of a sudden all of the yucky-feely love
evaporates because you are growing up. All of a
sudden you don’t merely want to be loved by your
Mom but also by your peers and friends.

TIPS TO SHOW MUTUAL TRUST AND RESPECT

Here are a few tips:

1. Try to be loving with your mom, even if you
don’t agree with her.

2. Speak honestly as much as possible.

3. Don’t be afraid to show your Mom affection.
By keeping the yucky love stuff, you will be able to
overcome obstacles and misunderstandings
between the two of you.

4. Don’t scream or put her down. Be respectful
instead. Even if your Mom screams at you, practise
forbearance.

5. If you don’t agree with your mom about
something, voice your opinion. But don’t try to put
her opinions down because she doesn’t agree with
you.

6. Always share things and do things with love.
This will go a long way towards creating healthy
relations between the two of you.

You need your Mom very badly during this
confusing and difficult time. Try and nurture a
healthy and loving relationship with her.
Do your
part, and maybe your mom will do her part too.
